Exercise is the first step for your skincare

When we think of ‘Skincare’, the first thing most people think of is a skincare routine and products. Although that is the key practice for your skincare, exercise is the first step for your skincare.

Our skin is the largest organ of our body. Looking after our body internally is just as important as applying face creams. By being physically active which includes- cardio, yoga, pilates, HIIT, swimming, dancing, cycling, tennis, running and jogging- ensures our skin and body is functthrioning correctly and effectively. Happy body equals happy skin!

Most people don’t realise how much exercise has a positive effect on our skin… Interestingly, exercise helps nourish and maintain the vitality of skin cells by increasing blood flow. Throughout the body, including the skin, the blood carries oxygen and nutrients to active cells. The blood flow, in addition to providing oxygen, also helps remove waste from functional cells, such as free radicals.

The lifestyle we have has a major impact on our skin and body. If we are not physically active, exposed to sunlight without protection, exposed to pollution and free radicals, lack of sleep and stress- this can be visible on our skin and our bodies can react negatively. In addition, feeding our bodies with unhealthy foods-

causes visible problems on and in our skin and body.

Adjusting your lifestyle with small tweaks can make a big difference.

Being physically active helps increase blood circulation in the body, strengthen stamina, enhance muscle mass and improve the skin complexion. Applying SPF every day can help protect the skin from harmful UV rays. Getting good quality sleep and manage stress levels to maintain energy levels and calmness.

It is vital to restore our bodies with vitamins, minerals, nutrients and antioxidants especially after exercising. This makes sure the skin is performing at its optimal level whilst keeping the body healthy. Water is essential to revive the body- drinking 2 litres or 8 glasses a day evenly throughout the day is the way to go for clear skin.

Vitamin-rich and antioxidant boosting foods like oranges, pomegranates and berries provide the body and skin protection from free radicals and environmental damage. Kale, cucumbers, fruit, vegetables, fish and meat are super rich in minerals and nutrients to repair, replenish and restore the body for healthier and youthful skin.

Limiting alcohol and avoid smoking and drinking alcohol in large amounts can contribute to a better lifestyle and healthier diet. When the body and skin are exposed to these harmful substances, it really shows on the skin resulting in fine lines, wrinkles and discolouration. Instead, switch to healthier and tastier alternatives like herbal tea, green tea, protein shakes and vitamin supplements.

Exercise is definitely the first step for your skincare. It is not only about beauty but about skin health and healthier skin for life. During exercise the heart rate increases which instantly stimulates blood circulation. At this stage, this delivers fresh oxygen and nutrients to the skin for better skin health. Collagen production helps promote cellular renewal which reduces the signs of ageing for youthful skin. Start your skincare right- with exercise!
